Description: Mundays Hill Quarry, George Garside (Sand) Ltd. (E.C.C.), Heath and Reach, near Leighton Buzzard. Cross-bedding in 'Silver Sands', Woburn Sands (Lower Cretaceous). The sands are medium to coarse-grained with pebbles of quartz, chert and lydite, up to 5 mm. in diameter; they include fragments of black carbonized fossil wood and show slight iron-staining. The 'herring-bone' cross-bedding visible indicates reversals of current direction compatible with deposition in a shallow tidal environment. Height of section approx. 2 m.
