Description: | Mundays Hill Quarry, George Garside (Sand) Ltd. (E.C.C.), Heath and Reach, near Leighton Buzzard. Carstone reef' in 'Silver Sands', Woburn Sands (Lower Cretaceous). The 'carstone reefs' are rather enigmatic features of linear form which extend for hundreds of metres in an east-west direction, as observed in the quarries around Shenley Hill over many years. The 'Silver Sands' are cemented and indurated by iron oxide and hydroxides to form features 3 to 10 metres wide and 2 to 3 metres high, standing above the upper surface of the sands. They separate areas of iron-stained sands from those of purer sand, but may be the result of contemporary tropical weathering on sand banks which stood above sea level.
