Description: West Heath Sandpit, 4 km. E. of Petersfield. Folkestone Beds. On the south side of the pit thinly-bedded sands with the bedding picked out by thin grey, buff or pink clay seams, up to 6 m. thick, rest on medium- to coarse-grained, cross-bedded (not evident in this view which is at right-angles to the dip of the foresets), friable sandstone. Fragments of ferruginous wood occur close to the junction of the two units.
