Description: The Cambrian-Torridonian unconformity on Quinag. The shoulder of Quinag in the foreground is capped by pale-coloured Cambrian Pipe Rock and Basal Quartzite which dip towards the viewer and rest unconformably on Torridonian sandstone. The two peaks in the middle distance are composed of gently-dipping Torridonian, thus demonstrating the transgressive nature of the Cambrian-Torridonian contact. View looking west. An unconformity occurs when there is a substantial gap in the geological record due to a period of non-deposition and/or erosion and is usually marked by an absence of parallelism between the beds.
