Caption: Wainlode Cliff on River Severn.
Description: Wainlode Cliff on River Severn. River cliff exposing uppermost Triassic beds. A close-up view of part of the cliff, showing the beds just above the more distant of the two red navigation notice-boards in BW1. Red mud-stones of the Mercia Mudstone include thin greenish-grey bands. They are overlain sharply by the Tea Green Marl, and this in turn shows a sharp junction with black shales of the Westbury Formation. Within the latter are some beds of hard silty sandstone, a few centimetres thick. These jut out as jointed rock layers.
