Description: Wainlode Cliff on River Severn. River cliff exposing uppermost Triassic beds. A cliff on the left bank of the Severn, looking downstream, exposes the top of the Mercia Mudstone (formerly Keuper Marl) comprising red mudstone overlain by a 7 m. thick unit of green-grey mudstones - the Green Marl. The overlying Penarth Group comprises black shales (Westbury Formation) 4.5 m. thick, overlain by paler mudstones, weakened yellowish-brown, of the Lilstock Formation (formerly Cotham Beds) about 4 m. thick. Grassy slopes above cliff are on Lower Lias clays.
