Description: Basal breccia or conglomerate of Upper Old Red Sandstone dipping at a low angle to left (north), resting on vertical shaly siltstone and thin greywacke of Silurian (Llandovery) age. The breccia consists of greywacke in a red, sandy matrix. The surface on which the conglomerate rests is in detail very uneven. Unconformity between Upper Old Red Sandstone and the underlying Silurian (Llandovery) age rocks. Hutton's classic world-famous unconformity. He was the first geologist to grasp the true significance of such a structure.
