The rocks on the shore are intrusive porphyrites and unbedded agglomerates, probably within a volcanic vent, of Lower Old Red Sandstone age. Coldingham Sands, on the left, marks the local southern limit of these rocks. Silurian greywackes form the high ground on the right. |
