Description: | St. David's Church, Trostrey, near Usk. Llancaeo Hill and glacio-fluvial gravel flat. The foreground potato field is a slightly dissected dip-slope formed by the highest Wenlock rocks, and on the left descends into a broad tributary valley filled with glacio-fluvial gravels. Glacio-fluvial valley train gravels deposited by the Usk, form the broad flattish surface on the centre right, later dissected to give subdued fluvially-trimmed terrace-like features, i.e. the slight rise on which the tower stands. The tributary gravels are graded about 6 - 7 m. above the Usk gravels and the nick point is marked by the small isolated tree just left of centre between the two groups of buildings. The drift-free wooded ridge of Llancaeo Hill on the left is formed of low Ludlovian rocks. The highest limit reached by the Usk boulder clay runs just below the ploughed field at 35 m. O.D., and passes beneath the Usk gravels downstream. See also description for A13484. |
