Description: Black Rock, Brighton. Drift deposits at Black Rock, Brighton. Flint gravel of the Brighton raised beach may be seen above the concrete retaining wall (left of centre and extreme right). The beach deposits rest on a platform of broken Upper Chalk (poorly exposed - left of centre). Coarse chalk scree deposits overlie the beach gravel and are in turn overlain br finer-grained crudely-bedded soifluxion deposits, known as 'Coombe Deposits', composed of chalk and flint rubble - well seen to left of picture. Several large sarsen boulders may be seen in the Coombe Deposits near the top of the cliff (centre).
