Description: | Ravensheugh, Whitekirk. East Lothian. Looking west-south-west. The Ravensheugh Sill is an upstanding mass of teschenite well exposed along the post-glacial raised beach back feature. The rock is dark grey and well jointed and is at least 15 m. thick and is cut to the east by a small fault. There is no evidence of contact with the country rock though intrusion breccia and baked sandstone, possibly a xenolith, are present below the teschenite in the east at high water mark. Note the blown sand either side of the headland. |
