Trachyte lavas of the Carboniferous (Calciferous Sandstone Measures) Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks. The lavas of Skid Hill represent a transition to the porphyritic quartz-trachytes with a reduced amount of plagioclase from the quartz-banakites that are characterized by the presence of plagioclase phenocrysts. The trachytic magmas formed through fractionation of the basic magmas i.e. the separation of a cooling magma into parts by the successive crystallization of different minerals at progressively lower temperatures. |
