Description: Disused chalk-pit, Waldingfield Road, Sudbury. Chalk, Thanet Beds and glacial deposits. The south-east face of the disused chalk-pit exposes the upper part of the Chalk; here well jointed, white and soft. In contrast to the pit in photograph A13252 the base of the Thanet Beds is planar. A few pebbles mark the base of this junction but again the lower part of the Thanet Beds consists of glauconite silty fine-grained sands. The upper part of the Thanet Beds has a pinkish colour. Slightly below and to the left of the pink object near the centre of the photograph are thin rusty brown coarse-grained sands, probably of Red Crag. Above this are drift deposits, poorly exposed but including sands and thin gravels, silts and a capping of boulder clay.
