Caption: Oblique aerial view of Corran Ferry, Loch Linnhe. Inverness-shire.
Description: This large gravel deposit is a fluvioglacial outwash fan. It marks a contemporaneous halt in the retreat of the valley glacier which occupied Loch Linnhe. It has an outward-sloping surface characteristic of an outwash fan and the inner steeper surface is considered to represent the original ice contact slope. A similar though smaller deposit on the east side of the loch suggests that the deposit at one time formed a complete barrier across the loch. A glacial outwash fan once stetched right across the loch but evidence suggests it was breached before the 25 foot raised beach was formed (the flat higher level on the peninsula on the left).
