Description: | Oblique aerial view of Ben Nevis showing the contact of the Outer Granite of the Ben Nevis Complex and the surrounding Dalradian schist. View looking south-south-east from Aonach Mor shows in the immediate foreground the Outer Granite of the Ben Nevis Complex in contact with surrounding Dalradian schists which form the middle peak; background peaks are of Glencoe Quartzite. There are three parts to the Ben Nevis Complex, the Outer Granite, steeply-bounded against the contact-altered schists, a continuous inner ring of the Inner Granite older than the Outer Granite, and the central core consisting of 2000 ft. of Lower Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks overlying Dalradian metasedimentary rocks. |
