Description: Oblique aerial view of Ben Nevis looking north from Sgurr Eilde Mor in the Mamore Forest. The conical hill is Binnein Beag. Looking across quartzites of the Dalradian Supergroup towards the Ben Nevis Complex of granites and lavas. Ben Nevis is dominantly granites, however, the light patch indicates lavas of the Lower Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks at summit. The distinct ridge on Ben Nevis is an excellent example of a corrie backwall. There are three parts to the Ben Nevis Complex, the Outer Granite, steeply-bounded against the contact-altered schists, a continuous inner ring of the Inner Granite older than the Outer Granite, and the central core consisting of 2000 ft. of Lower Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks overlying Dalradian metasedimentary rocks.
