Description: Western slope of Little Haldon Hill. Looking W. View west from Little Haldon. This view is taken from Little Haldon Hill, a plateau-remnant of Cretaceous Upper Greensand and Eocene Haldon Gravels. The Greensand rests on Permian Teignmouth Breccias, which form the long ridge in the foreground. These in turn rest on strongly folded and faulted strata of the Devonian and Carboniferous, which form the lower hills in the middle distance and to the right. In the far distance is the Dartmoor granite mass, with Hay Tor prominent to the left. The deep valley running into the distance to the right reveals the line of the Lustleigh Fault, a major Tertiary tear fault, while the wide wooded valley in the left middle distance is the Bovey Basin, a faulted basin developed on the line of the Lustleigh Fault and filled with thick unconsolidated deposits of largely Oligocene age.
