Description: East coast of Eigg from the sea. Inverness-shire. Southerly-dipping Tertiary lavas of the Eigg Lava Formation with light-coloured mugearite (the pale band about half-way up the scarp) resting on concretionary sandstones and Estheris shales. The grey-weathering mugearite is a distinctive marker lava flow, generally 10-15 m. thick, linking the lava successions of northern and south-western Eigg. The Estheris shales, now called the Longfearn Member of the Lealt Shale Formation, are olive-brown when fresh and contain a predominantly low-salinity fauna of Neomiodon, astracods and conchostacans.
