Description: | A close-up of the Sgurr of Eigg, Isle of Eigg. Inverness-shire. The eastern end of the pitchstone ridge of the Sgurr showing a sheet of Eocene age columnar-jointed pitchstone resting unconformably on Palaeogene (Tertiary) lavas. The columns in the lower part of the pitchstone are massive and perpendicular to the valley sides and reaching one metre is diameter. A sheet of pale felsite can be seen intruded into the pitchstone and with a characteristic overhang of pitchstone at its upper edges. |
