Description: The Sgurr of Eigg from near the harbour, Galmisdale. Inverness-shire. Palaeogene (Tertiary) lavas of the Eigg Lava Formation, with the Eocene pitchstone ridge of the Sgurr in the background. The lava flows are commonly separated by thin beds of red clay ('bole') and show strong trap featuring. They form a succession of gently south-west dipping flows about 400 m. thick, individual flows are commonly between 5 and 10 m. in thickness. The pitchstone was erupted into valleys of a westerly-draining system eroded into the Eigg Lava Formation.
