Description: | West Norfolk Super Lime Co. Pit, Hillington. Looking N. Hillington Chalk Pit: solution 'pipe' infilled with sand. In the north face of the pit a long narrow infilled crack runs irregularly through the Subglobosus Zone chalk. In places it thins to a fraction of an inch, in others thickens to 4 to 5 inches. Within the crack sand derived from the Carstone and belemnite-rich clay from the Gault provide an infilling. The surrounding chalk is frost-shattered and the whole feature is probably of Glacial or early Post-glacial age. It is associated with the intensely weathered chalk shown in A10890. |
