| Description: | Sandringham Church. Looking N. Sandringham Sands used as building material. Although referred to locally as being built of 'small Car' the stone seen here in the nave and tower of Sandringham Church is not from the Carstone but from the Upper Sandringham Sands. The material is reputed to have been obtained from old pits adjacent to those shown in A10860 near Sandringham Warren. The stone itself is ferruginously cemented fine-grained sandstone and its flaggy bedding allows it to be easily broken into small blocks. As with Snettisham Church (see A10892) the buttresses and door and window frames are of Middle Jurassic limestone. See also A10864. |
