Description: | Lithology and weathering features of Carstone in Hunstanton Cliffs. Looking E. The Carstone is commonly a fine to medium-grained pebbly sandstone rich in ferruginous cement. Within it are minor lithological variations and here at Hunstanton the topmost 8 ft. is only sparsely pebbly but is underlain by very pebbly material (junction in middle of picture). The typical 'boxstone' weathering is produced by solution and secondary desposition of the ferruginous cement. |
