Description: Brough of Bigging, looking north across Geldi Geo from Qui Ayre, western shore of Orkney c. 3 m. north-west of Stromness. The cliff is formed of Lower Stromness Flags (Middle Old Red Sandstone). It is estimated that there are nearly 3000 feet of Lower Stromness Flags in the area. The normal type of flagstone is a blue-grey, calcareous rock which splits into layers two to four inches thick. Other variations also occur.
