Description: Castle of Qui Ayre, western shore of Orkney c. 3 m. north-west of Stromness. A natural arch formed by erosion along joints in massive cross-bedded Old Red Sandstone (possibly Lower Old Red Sandstone) Yesnaby Sandstone Formation. The metamorphic basement of the north coast of Garthna Geo is in the background. It is one of a number of small inliers which lie on a north-north-west trending belt extending from here to Graemsay.
