Eday Flags are in the foreground and cliffs of Middle Eday Sandstone across the bay, both of Old Red Sandstone age. The Eday Flags on South Ronaldsay are a series of yellow, pink and brown sandstones with interbedded layers of grey, brown and greenish marly shale and bands of blue flags. Here at Sand Wick the sequence consists of 600 feet of yellow sandstones. The Middle Eday Sandstone cliffs consist of current-bedded red, pink and yellow sandstones.
