Description: Cliffs of Marwick Head, West Mainland, Orkney with the Kitchener Memorial on the cliff top. The cliffs are formed of the Old Red Sandstone Upper Stromness Flags, (now called Upper Caithness Flags). The westerly-dipping rocks consist of a blue-grey flaggy rhythmic sequence of fish-bed laminate-mudstone, siltstone and fine-grained sandstone. The beds show coarsening-upward lacustrine units two to ten metres thick.
