Description: | The Nev, north-west coast of Aikerness peninsula, Westray. Orkney. A high-level storm beach with large blocks of Rousay Flags torn from the cliff top and piled up in a crescentic ridge during the heavy storms that frequent the Orkney Islands. The storm beach, a continuous mound of angular blocks of flagstones up to 10 feet across and one foot in thickness is situated at the top of a vertical cliff 40 to 50 feet high. It is a quarter of a mile long, 100 feet wide and 15 feet high and can be as far as 200 feet from the cliff edge. |
