Caption: Subsidence hollow at Ure Bank Terrace, Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Description: IThe hole formed during 23-24 April 1997 and measured 10metres in diameter and 5.5.meters deep. It was caused by a collapse over a cave formed in gypsum of Permian age. Four garages were initially destroyed and further failure of the hole sides have damaged the adjacent house.
