Description: Beacon Hill, Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. Looking NNW. Beacon Hill Beds. The Beacon Hill Beds are included in the Maplewell Series of the Charnian (Precambrian) of Charnwood Forest. They consist of finely-banded hornstones (silicified ashes). The crags in the photograph show this fine banding, a north-easterly dip, and a well-developed almost vertical cleavage.
