Caption: Looking north-westwards from the escarpment of Calciferous Sandstone Measures lavas on the northern slopes of the Gargunnock Hills.
Description: Beyond lies the flat plain of the carse where Lower Old Red Sandstone sediments are overlain by the postglacial marine alluvium of the Carse Clays. These sediments are overlain in turn by extensive deposits of peat including the dark-coloured expanse of Flanders Moss on the left of the middle distance. The long low hills behind the carse are now composed of conglomerates of Lower Old Red Sandstone age. In the distance, on the north-west side of the Highland Boundary Fault, the high rugged ground is largely formed of Dalradian schistose grit. (Forms a panorama with D00767.) The low undulating ground at the foot of the escarpment lies along the outcrop of the Upper Old Red Sandstone which is covered by a thick deposit of boulder clay.
