The Ben Nevis Complex, a sequence of granitic intrusions with central cauldron subsidence of Lower Old Red Sandstone lavas and Dalradian metasedimentary rocks. The precipice and topmost part of the mountain are formed from lavas of Lower Old Red Sandstone age. The peak on the left and the rounded hill to the right are made up of granite of the pluton into which those lavas have foundered. Coire a' Mhuilinn, below the precipice shows the U-shaped form of a well glaciated valley and 'hangs' above the Great Glen. |
