Description: View of South Downs from Pollards Hill, Southwater in Weald Clay countryside. View to the South Downs across ridges in Weald Clay, Poolard's Hill at Southwater (east side of A24 road). The foreground hay field is on a sandstone bed dipping southward, and the ridge, which the southbound carriageway crosses where the vehicles are, is formed by another such band of calcareous sandstone. The Chalk hills shown are the same as those in photograph A10188, i.e. Wolstonbury, Newtimber, Devil's Dyke and Tonleigh Hills, from left to right.
