Description: Gleann an Dubh Choirein. Stirlingshire. The photograph shows a line of moraine mounds parallel to Allt an Dubh Choirein. Stuc a' Chroin and Ben Vorlich in background. Moundy deposits of morainic drift occur on the floors and lower slopes of many of the valleys in the area, they are particularly extensive here in Gleann an Dubh Choirein. In many places there is a distinct tendency for individual mounds and ridges to be elongate parallel to the valley axes. Morainic drift consists essentially of glacially deposited debris distinguishable from boulder clay by its marked hummocky topography and its loose poorly consolidated, unsorted rock debris in a sandy to clayey matrix.
