| Description: | Mangaster Voe. A typical Shetland voe. The coastline of Shetland results from the drowning of the monadnock-like Shetland archipelago. As a result of the rising sea level the valleys between the hills have been drowned to form an inner coast which is protected from the swell of the open ocean. The resultant drowned valleys are called voes, firths or wicks. |
