Description: Binny Craig, 0.4 km. west of Oatridge, Ecclesmachan. West Lothian. Details of crags at south end of Binny Craig showing columnar structure of sill. The summit is seen in the distance. The columnar jointing is caused by the contraction during cooling of the dolerite sill. A pattern of tensional forces acting towards a number of centres is set up which tend to open a series of joints which ideally form a hexagonal pattern.
