Description: Binny Craig, 0.4 km. west of Oatridge, Ecclesmachan. West Lothian. General view of the crag from the south-west and looking north-east showing the steep westerly face of the quartz-dolerite sill. In hand specimen the rock is a fresh, compact dolerite of greyish-black colour, sparingly porphyritic with small feldspars and augites up to 2 mm. in diameter, inclusions of quartz grains and irregular patches of sedimentary material are characteristic. When broken the rock emits a bituminous odour derived from the oil shales in the adjacent rock.
