Description: | Fetlar. Shetland Isles. Method of transporting peat using ponies. The peat was almost certainly for domestic consumption. Peat in the Shetlands is a traditional fuel that was cut and worked by hand. On Fetlar the blanket bog type is virtually absent from the serpentine and greenstone areas though it does occur in the south and west of the island. |
