Description: | The Ring of Brodgar occupies a commanding position on a narrow strip of land between the lochs of Stenness and Harray, in the heart of Orkney. The stones and their encircling henge ditch form a perfect circle with a diameter of almost exactly 125 megalithic yards. The Ring of Brodgar is unusual in that it lacks any sign of a bank. The ditch, like that of the Stones of Stenness, was cut into the underlying bed-rock, and was as much as 3 m. in depth in some places. |
