| Description: | Skara Brae is a small prehistoric village of six to eight houses, which were built, modified and rebuilt over a period of c. 600 years, between c. 3100 and 2500 BC, at the Bay of Skaill, on mainland Orkney. A view of the interior of one of the houses, showing a box bed, constructed from local flagstone. The bed may have been lined with bracken, and sheepskins or other animal skins would have been used as blankets. There are usually recess cupboards set into the wall above each bed. |
