Description: From Red Castle, Lunan Bay, 5 miles south-south-west of Montrose and 8.5 miles north-north-east of Arbroath. Looking north. The foreground forms part of the 25 ft. raised beach while the Red Castle sits on the 100 ft. raised beach. Red Castle, an ancient castellated structure is said to have been built by William the Lyon, perhaps to prevent the invasion of the Danes, and to have been a royal hunting-seat.
