Caption: From Red Castle, Lunan Bay, 5 miles south-south-west of Montrose and 8.5 miles north-north-east of Arbroath. Looking north.
Description: The small skerry emerging from the sand to right is part of the Upper Old Red Sandstone formation which is faulted down against the lavas and conglomerates of Lower Old Red Sandstone age on both sides, giving rise to the bay during each successive period of uplift. Sand embayed in Lunan Bay forming the present beach, 25 ft. raised beach, and the 100 ft. raised beach during successive periods of uplift. The cottage is situated on the 25 ft. raised beach.
