| Description: | The Strathblane Hills looking north from Strathblane. Stirlingshire. Escarpments of lava flows of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation dipping to east and overlying the Lower Carboniferous, Inverclyde Group, Ballagan Formation. Both the foreground and the hills are formed of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation but they are part of two discrete largely fault-bounded lava blocks of the Kilpatrick Hills and the Campsie Hills respectively. During the Flandrian, after the disappearance of the glaciers there is evidence for three marine incursions into the Strath Blane basin. The photograph shows a good view of Strathblane in c. 1913. |
