Description: Looking south, from Fortrose. Ross & Cromarty. Coastal ridge of basal Middle Old Red Sandstone conglomerate, truncated by Great Glen fault running parallel with the shoreline. Terraces of 25 ft. and 100 ft. raised beaches in centre middle distance. The Great Glen Fracture Zone is the principal fracture in the district striking at approximately 040 degrees. The major displacement appears to be downfaulting to the east however careful examination reveals significant dextral displacement prior to the main downfaulting. The Fortrose pier is in the centre of the photograph.
