Description: Lewes Cement and Lime Works Quarry, opposite Fox Inn, Southerham. Looking NE. Southerham Lime Kilns. The nearer quarry, occupied by the Lime Works, is Southerham Pit. Its north face, to right of wind-pump, is cut in the Zones of Micraster coranguinum and Micraster cortestudinarium, the junction of these zones being about half-way up the section. The bedding dips to left (NNW) at decreasing angle, and becomes horizontal, at the axis of the Mt. Caburn syncline, under the turf slope behind the wind-pump. The distant quarry on the left is the Snowdrop Pit, in the above-named zones. There the dip is south-south-east.
