Description: Barkham, about 2 m. W. of Uckfield. Looking NW. Barkham, near Piltdown. Showing top of plateau in which the 'Eoanthropus gravel' forms a thin capping to the Tunbridge Wells Sand. The shallow pits in which remains of Eoanthropus were first observed are between the low firs and the hedge in the background, near middle of view. The K-shaped wooden memorial to Eoanthropus dawsoni S. Woodw., on the hedge-bank, can be seen with a lens. The pit shown in No. A2942 is on the farther side of the same hedge.
