Description: E. bank of Ditchling Road, just S. of turning to Cold Dean. Looking E. Weathering of the Chalk. A seam of vein or white tabular flint (indicated by the handle of the hammer) 'suspended' in dark Clay-with-flints, which has replaced its original chalk matrix. The shrinkage and settlement of the decaying chalk have dislocated the tabular flint, drawing its fragments apart in some places, and crowding them together in others. The chalk shown is in the Zone of Offaster pilula.
