Description: From Spur below Chanctonbury Ring. Looking NW. The Weald from Chanctonbury Hill. Lower slopes of the Chalk escarpment of the South Downs in the foreground. The bottom-land in shadow is mostly on the Upper Greensand and Gault. The rise of lighter ground beyond marks the outcrop of the Lower Greensand. Here the pit in front of the windmill, near middle of view, is that in the Folkstone Beds shown in Nos. A2411-A2415. In the distance, the low ground to the right is mostly on Weald Clay: the higher ground to left is on Lower Greensand about Ashington and Thakeham.
