Description: | Overend Quarry, near Hensingham, 1 1/2 m. SE of Whitehaven. Looking NNW. Middle of large quarry. The upper part of the quarry face, partly grassed over is boulder clay. The bare rock to the next grass patch below is Hensingham Grit (D3) at one time regarded as Millstone Grit. The rest of the quarry face is in First Limestone, the highest limestone of workable thickness of the Carboniferous Limestone Series. |
