The colliery on the north side of the harbour is the William Pit; the cliffs beyond the pit are of Whitehaven Sandstone (see photograph No. A2315) which also forms the first point (known as Redness Point, see photographs Nos. A2310-A2312). Beyond Redness Point a fault brings up Middle Coal Measures. The second headland is Micklam Point with Harrington Collieries on the top of the cliffs. |
